What We Make of It (working title)
I met Sue Johnson in the summer of 2025. Since then, I’ve been documenting her life and the goings on at her custom lampshade store, which has been in the same location in Berkeley, CA, for over fifty years.
I write this now in the summer of 2027. A lot has happened since - including developments in local politics that have put her shop at risk (still in the camera, not visited yet in these edits 👀).
It’s been an absolute joy - to explore my creativity and piece together, from many disparate filming sessions, a cohesive statement about mortality, artistry, and the American generational divide.
